LEJOG Day 15 – Edinburgh to Perth, Tuesday 24th September 2024, (Remembering Steve Legg)

Today started off overcast with rain threatening. We were able to ride out of Edinburgh assisted by an excellent network of cycle paths, although we did manage to get hooted at by a tram!

Making good progress, we rounded a corner and there in the distance was the Forth Bridge!

We learnt that the Forth Bridge is the original bridge. The central suspension bridge is the Forth Road Bridge, which is the bridge that we rode across. A 3rd bridge to the left is the Queensferry Bridge.

It was very exciting to see and to cross over the bridge which was absolutely stunning. Although overcast, a glimmer of sun shone through to highlight the scene.

Once over the bridge, it did start to rain although not that heavily, and happily it did ease off before getting too wet.

Nearing our first stop, there was another road closure. Fortunately we were allowed through. When we did finally reach the stop point in Drum, we found it was closed. We had to ride a further 20 mins or so to reach Mona’s of Muckhart.

As we rode into the carpark, it started to pour. We managed to get the biles under cover but we did get a bit of a soaking by the time we got indoors.

We had a very welcome lunch and warmed up a bit.

I felt a bit of a dip in the café and continued to feel quite fatigued for the rest of the ride. But happy to reach our accommodation, a chic apartment with hot tub in Perth.

A quick clean of the bikes and wax oil the chain before a shower and get dinner.
