LEJOG Day 10 – Clitheroe to Sedburgh (Remembering Steve Legg)

Setting off from Clitheroe it was again a chilly start to the day.

Crossing the RIver Ribble, heading towards Waddington marking the gateway to the Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Spectacular scenery dominates the stage as we left behind the mill towns and villages for open landscape.

The riding today included challenging climbs up to the highest point of LEJOG in England. There were also the corresponding descents!

Our first stop was at G and Mo’s Café in the village of Bentham.

Passing Stocks reservoir and crossing the River Hodder, we then followed the river virtually to its source in high, heather-coated grouse moorlands.

We saw the local breed Jacob’s Sheep so named because they are spotted and speckled like the sheep that Jacob cared for in the Bible. They also had distinctive curly horns!

Through Kirkby Lonsdale we proceeded to our accommodation in Sedburgh.

This is where we will spend 2 nights and will enjoy a welcome rest day tomorrow!

The AirBnB is in nestled within the spectacular landscape of the Yorkshire Dales.

Another beautiful sunny day taking us through the most truly dramatic and outstanding scenery so far.

Whisps of cloud and airplane trails in the sky and a fighter jet plane flying incredibly low booming overhead through the valley. Reminders that Steve now has his wings!
